Section 1 - Assessing Water Confidence and Skills

1. Are they comfortable submerging and holding their breath underwater for 3+ seconds? *
2. Are they able to easily float (without assistance or floaties) on their front and back for at least 5 seconds? *
3. Are they able to kick or swim at least 15 feet on their Front AND Back without floaties, or assistance of any kind? *
4. Are they able to confidently jump into the pool by themselves? *

Section 2 - Swim Techniques and Endurance

5. Are they able to swim freestyle with small, fast kicks and long, straight arm strokes for at least 15 feet? *
6. Are they able to easily kick, flat on their back with small, fast kicks at the surface for more than 15 feet? *
7. Are they able to comfortably swim at least 25 feet on their front and take 2-3 breaths as needed without stopping swimming? *
8. How do they breathe while swimming? *
9. Are they able to jump into the pool and easily swim back to the wall? *

Section 3 - Analyzing Techniques and Stamina

10. Are they able to easily swim Freestyle with side breathing (not lifting the head to breathe) for at least 45 feet (15 yards)? *
11. When they swim Freestyle, do they use long, smooth arm strokes that reach as far forward and pull as far back as possible? *
12. After swimming a distance of around 15-25 yards (45-75 feet) are they…? *
13. Are they able to swim Backstroke with straight arms and consistent kicks at the surface for at least 45 feet (15 yards)? *

Section 4 - Advanced Techniques and Strength

14. Are they able to swim Freestyle with side breathing easily and repeatedly and without breaking their technique for at least 150 feet (50 yards) with only a brief rest in the middle? *
